Terms of use and disclaimer
Short version: the calculators are free educational tools, not legal or payroll advice, they cover federal law only, and you use the results at your own risk.
1. Not legal, tax, accounting or payroll advice
PayrollCalcs provides general information about United States federal wage-and-hour and leave law, and calculators that apply that information to numbers you supply. The content is for educational purposes only. It is not legal advice, does not create an attorney-client or other professional relationship, and is not a substitute for advice from a licensed employment attorney, a certified payroll professional, or the US Department of Labor or your state labor department, applied to your specific facts.
2. Federal rules only
The calculators implement rules from the Fair Labor Standards Act and its regulations (29 CFR Part 778) and the Family and Medical Leave Act and its regulations (29 CFR Part 825). They do not implement state, local, tribal or territorial law, collective-bargaining agreements, or employer policies, any of which may impose additional or different obligations. Where another law is more protective of the employee, that law controls. You are responsible for identifying and applying any such law.
3. Accuracy and currency
We work hard to make the calculations correct and cite the regulation behind each step, and we test the code against published examples. We nevertheless make no promise that any result is correct, complete or current. Regulations, interpretations and agency guidance change. Results depend entirely on the inputs you provide; your time and payroll records control, not this site.
4. No warranty
The site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, PayrollCalcs and its operators will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special or exemplary damages, including back wages, penalties, liquidated damages, attorney fees or lost profits, arising out of or related to your use of or reliance on this site, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. If any part of this limitation is unenforceable, our total liability will not exceed US $10.
6. Third-party links and affiliate disclosure
Pages link to government sources and, in clearly labeled boxes, to payroll and HR software vendors. Vendor links may be affiliate links through which we earn a commission at no cost to you. We do not control third-party sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, products or privacy practices. A recommendation box is not a representation that any product will make you compliant.
7. Permitted use
You may use the calculators for your own business or personal purposes and may print or save results. You may not scrape, republish or resell the content or code at scale, misrepresent results as our professional opinion, or use the site in any unlawful way. Quoting short excerpts with a link is welcome.
8. Changes and governing law
We may change these terms or the site at any time by posting an update here. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the site operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
